Transmission Infrastructure

Several transmission-related upgrades are also planned or under study in the broader Marathon County region.

Examples include:

• Stratford-McMillan transmission improvements

• Wien-McMillan transmission projects

• Additional upgrades needed to accommodate future weather-based generation and regional load growth.

While transmission projects generally receive less public attention than wind complexes, they are critical because large-scale weather-based projects often cannot proceed without sufficient transmission capacity.

Combined, the two known wind proposals alone represent roughly 300 MW of potential generation capacity, making western and southwestern Marathon County a significant focus area for future utility-scale weather-based energy developers.
